“The Field Of Expression Remains Wide Open, Free Of Any Dictatorial Spasms” – Soyinka On FG’s Suspension Of Twitter

By Olivia Isibor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Professor Wole Soyinka has lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari’s suspension of social media platform, twitter, describing it asa “petulant gesture” that is “unbecoming of a democratically elected president”.

The revered Nobel  Laureate said this in reaction to the Federal Government’s sanctioning of the micro-blogging site on Friday, pointing out, however, that a Twitter ban in the country is a “technical issue Nigerians should be able to work their way around”, adding that  “the field of expression remains wide open, free of any dictatorial spasms”.

Soyinka advised Buhari to sort out his personal issues with Twitter the way former U.S.A President, Donald Trump did, and not “rope in the right to free expression of the Nigerian citizen as collateral damage”.
