By Nkoli Opara (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – According to elder stateman and former Minister of Information, Chief Edwin Clark, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cannot solve the security quandary facing the country unassisted, but should call on the country’s past leaders to help out.
Clark, who stated this during an interview on Channels Television’s Newsnight on Sunday, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to address Nigerians on efforts so far taken by his government to check the security challenges bedeviling the country.
Speaking further, Clark said “Nigeria does not lack people” with the requisite experience to help solve her security challenges, mentioning the likes of General Gown, General Babangida, Abdusalam Abubakar et.al as some of the Nigerians Buhari could call on for advice on the way forward.
The former minister also backed the call by 17 southern governors for a national conference, creation of state police and restructuring of the nation.
Nigeria has been plagued by a catalogue of security challenges ranging from terrorism, banditry, militancy, cultism et.al. Insurgency alone has resulted in the death of 36,000 people and the displacement of several thousands more in the North-East.
