=== (AGENDAWATCHDOG) === As parts of its contribution to boosting agribusiness, accelerate the creation of wealth as well as boosting food security, the National Agricultural Land Development Authority, NALDA, is set to establish a packaging plant in Ogun State to accelerate  cassava production..

This was made known by Prince Paul Ikonne, the Executive Secretary, NALDA, during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Ogun State Dr Dapo Abiodun to brief him on NALDA’s mission to the State. Ikonne told the Governor that NALDA intended to revitalize its 700 hectares of farmland in Ogun State, alongside the setting up of an Integrated Farm Estate in the three Senatorial Zones of the State, together with a garri processing and packaging plant.

Ikonne added that the cassava packaging plant would complement the Integrated Farm Estates as the Farm Estates would be a beehive of agricultural activities including farming, processing and packaging areas, commodity market, residential areas and schools, adding that President Buhari has directed NALDA to generate jobs and achieve food security via its  mandate, and that Ogun State has been slated to be one of the pilot states.

Governor of Ogun State, Dr Dapo Abiodun, commended NALDA for choosing Ogun State as one of the pilot States for the Integrated Farm Estates, assuring that his administration will sustain the agro-produce programme.

PEROJECTED IMPACT: The project is an avenue to create thousands of jobs for the youths of the state, as it would touch on the entire agriculture value chain from production to processing and marketing. With Ogun state possessing the largest capacity in Cassava production in the country, the Garri packaging plant would enable farmers process and package garri accordingly and move it into the market. Ultimately, locating the plant in Ogun State would create more opportunities and also encourage the farmers to produce more.
