Lawan: NASS Committed To Enhancing Media Practice In Nigeria, Will Never Make Laws To Inhibit Press Freedom

By Nkoli Opara (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has lauded the Nigerian media on the occasion of the 2021 World Press Freedom Day, assuring that the National Assembly, which he heads, will not make legislations to hinder press freedom.

Lawan made this declaration via a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesman, Ola Awoniyi, in which he acknowledged the contributions of the Nigerian media to national development and democratic governance, urging media practitioners to continue abiding by the ethics of the profession in the discharge of their responsibilities.

“The Ninth Senate and the National Assembly, in general, will never pass any law that inhibits the freedom of the press but rather work with the media to further enhances the practice of the profession,” he said.

 “I also celebrate the Nigerian journalists for the invaluable contributions and sacrifices that they have made throughout our national history to nation-building and entrenchment of democracy.
