By Nkoli Opara (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the replacement for its field commander, Ikonson, gunned down by Nigerian security forces in the early hours of Saturday in Imo State.
This was disclosed by the group’s spokesman, Emmanuel Powerful, during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
Refusing to reveal the identity of the new Comander, the IPOB spokesman alleged that their late commander was killed because he rebuffed an invitation to head Ebubeagu, a regional security body set up by the South East Governors’ Forum.
Powerful accused the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, of being responsible for Ikonson’s death, decrying the mass clampdown on score of IPOB and ESN members across states in the South-East region by government forces.
On Saturday, the Nigerian Army confirmed the death of Ikonson, following a raid by a combined team of security forces on the operational headquarters of the IPOB/ESN in Awomama Village in Oru East local government area of Imo State.
