#Insecurity: Why Senator Arise Thinks Nigerians Should Be Armed

By John Imade (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ayo Arise, has urged the Federal Government to consider allowing Nigerians access to arms for self defence.

Arise made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, where he opined that the police force alone cannot guarantee the security of Nigerians.

According to the legislator, armed bandits will be deterred if they know their potential victims are also armed.

“When you look at the quantum of ammunition, 350 million; where do we start from; we have such porous borders; people can come in from anywhere, and of course there have been agitations. I am one of those who think that Nigeria should allow people to bear arms,” he said.

“When others have ammunition, and you are totally helpless, they go on a rampage. For example, if these bandits realise that you might be carrying arms, you will see that there will be mutually assured destruction. And it is going to be a way of deterrent.
