We Are Not Yes-Men, Says Senate President, Blames Opposition For Negative Perception Of Legislature

By John Imade (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, says the current legislative arm of government is not a bunch of yes-men, but an independent body with a will of its own.

Lawan said this at the commissioning of New Evans Ewerem Way in Imo State, where he was Guest of Honour.

According to the Senate president, the two arms of government collaborate in the making of laws and policies that would benefit Nigerians, adding, however, that the legislature can also disagree  – have actually disagreed on some occasions in the past – with the executive when necessary, proceeding to carpet the opposition for the negative image it had festooned on the country’s legislative arm of government.

Critics of the incumbent Senate have accused it of being a rubber stamp body that that does the biding of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led, All Progressives Congress (APC) government, rather than working for the common good of the Nigerian people.
