(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Approximately 30 agricultural extension agents have been trained by the Federal Government to promote agricultural production for the 2021 farming season in Edo State.T
his was disclosed by Sabo Nanono, minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, who said the training was part of FG’s strategies to revive agricultural extension systems with the aim of enhancing service delivery to farmers in terms of production and technical support.
The four-day training programme which was conducted by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) spanned from Monday, March 8 to Thursday, March 11. It is going on in the 36 states of the federation including the FCT.
PROJECTED IMPACT: The training will build the capacity of youths and existing practitioners in the agricultural extension delivery system, which will improve the fortunes of the agricultural extension system, which has diminished owing to insufficient funds, shortage of manpower and lack of interest in the sector, resulting in low food production, higher unemployment rate, youth restiveness and economic instability.
