Resident Doctors Commence Indefinite Nationwide Strike

By Vanessa Ikpereka (AGENDWATCHDOG) – Members of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) have embarked on an indefinite industrial action across the country.

According to NARD President, Dr Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, while announcing the commencement of the nationwide strike, the strike commenced following an ultimatum issued to the Federal Government to accede to their demands, which expired on Wednesday.

“The strike commenced 8am this morning, and we enjoin all resident doctors to start the strike immediately,” he said.

Recall that ahead the commencement of the ndustrial action, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Doctor Chris Ngige, held a conciliatory meeting with the leaders of the union on Wednesday in Abuja, where he appealed to the aggrieved medical practitioners to have a rethink and sheathe their sword, saying the Federal Government was making efforts to ensure their demands were met.
