(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Agenda Watchdog wishes to draw the attention of the Edo State Government and other governing authorities to the deplorable plight of the inhabitants of Ogbalise-Okpe community, a rustic rural enclave, adjacent to Ayegunle, in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the state.
In a nutshell, Ogbalise-Okpe community lacks basic amenities such as electricity, pipe borne water, community health centre, school etc. The only source of drinking water in the community is a public stream, which is shared with cows owned by roving herdsmen, an unhygienic practice that endangers the health of the members of the community who are exposed to the possible outbreak of epidemics.
Again, the absence of a single school in the community has resulted in a situation whereby children and youths laze around with nothing better to do. The challenges facing the indigenes of Ogbalise-Okpe community are too numerous to mention in this piece, due to lack of space; it will take a visit to this seemingly forgotten land to get a full picture of the heartrending conditions being depicted in the write-up.
Agenda Watchdog is appealing to the Edo State Government, the Member Representing Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency, which Ogbalise-Okpe falls under, the Deputy Minority Leader, House of Representatives, the Deputy Minority Leader, House of Representatives, and the leadership of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, to look into the plight of the indigenes of the people of this endangered community with a view to putting in place concrete measures that would ameliorate their challenges.
Ogbalise-Okpe community is inhabited by taxpaying Nigerian voters who should not be excluded from the dividends of democratic governance. It behooves of the aforementioned political authorities to stretch out their hands of fellowship towards fellow citizens who participated in the processes that led to their mounting the Olympian heights they currently occupy. “One good turn deserves another”, as the saying goes.
