FG To Construct Gemstone Market In Ibadan


(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Olamilekan Adegbite, has announced plans by the Federal Government to construct a gems’ market in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Adegbite, who disclosed this in Ibadan, while receiving documents of two hectares of land located at Ojoo, along Ibadan-Oyo Road, in Akiinyele Local Government Area of the state, donated for that purpose by the Oyo State Government, added that the initiative was part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s post- COVID-19 palliatives being executed by the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.

The project is aimed at developing the activities in the sector within the six zones in the country, according to Adegbite, who further stated that funding for the project was available, assuring the people that his ministry would try its best to complete the project for inauguration before the end of this year.

PROJECTED IMPACT: The establishment of the gems’ market in the Southwest zone, will promote gemstone trading, which is already going on in the Ojoo area of Ibadan. The formalization of gemstone business, which has become  an international business, will enhance gemstone trading and be beneficial to the federal, state and local governments.
