COVID-19: Wike Mulls Fresh Lockdown In Rivers State

By Nkoli Opara (AGENDAWATCHDOG) –  In a bid to contain the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, is mulling the imposition of a fresh lockdown in the state from January.

Wike disclosed this during the thanksgiving church service in celebration of the 90th birthday of Mrs. Priscilla Nwanediye Mark, at the St. Martin’s Anglican Church, Omagwa in Ikwerre Local Government on Sunday, where he said that the move was consequent to the flagrant disregard of COVID-19 protocols by some residents of the state who had thrown caution to the wind despite several pleas by the government and medical authorities to safeguard themselves.

Worship centres were not spared the governor’s ire as they were threatened with a complete shut down if  the members of their congregations refused to wear face masks and comply with other COVID-19 protocols.
