Nigeria’s Current Constitution Is A Barrier To Her Development – Okowa

By Franca Joseph (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Nigeria’s current constitution is the major barrier to her development, according to Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa of Delta State, who said this on Saturday in Asaba, during the launch of a book by Michael Tidi, Warri South Local Government Chairman.

Okowa, who is the subsisting Chairman of the South-South Governors Forum, also chose the occasion to reaffirm the region’s call for restructuring and resource control, which was among the major demands by South-South leaders at a recent stakeholders forum in Port Hacourt, the Rivers State capital.

The governor advised the people of the South-South to desist from playing politics with serious issues as it might work against the development of the region. calling on all Nigeria Deltans to always rally round issues concerning the growth of the region, regardless of party affiliations and primordial considerations.

“Recently in Port Harcourt, we called for resource control and restructuring because the constitution as it is now, cannot develop the country.

“I hear people asking what the governors have done with the 13 per cent derivation? Give us 100 per cent, and we can pay you tax of 50 per cent,” Okowa told the federal government.
