Customs Officer Goes Missing In Ogun After Attack On Patrol Team By Smugglers

By Franca Joseph (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Ogun 1 Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced that one of its officers is missing, following an attack by smugglers during a routine mobile patrol along Olorunlere village, in Ado Odo Ota Local Government Area of the state.

This was disclosed via a press statement by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Hammed Bukoye Oloyede, who said that the driver of a patrol vehicle of the NCS, Taiwo Odeyemi, went missing after a confrontation with smugglers attempting to smuggle bags of parboiled foreign rice.

The suspected smugglers, according to the statement, opened fire at the patrol officers in their bid to escape, resulting in sporadic exchange of gunfire between both sides, following which the patrol team called for reinforcement, which could not arrive before the smugglers overwhelmed the patrol team, vandalized some of its vehicles and abducted its official driver, CA I (T) Taiwo J Odeyemi.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to the PRO, to locate the whereabouts of the missing officer.
