Police Withdraws Suit Against Judicial Panels Of Inquiry

By Nkoli Opara (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has requested a withdrawal of the suit seeking an order to stop the states’ judicial panels of inquiry from investigating allegations of police brutality and human rights infractions against some of its personnel.

This was contained in a notice of discontinuance filed by Mr. Festus Ibude, a police lawyer, in which the police stated its intention to withdraw the suit against all the defendants, which was earlier filed by Mr. O.M Atoyebi, in which the force had sought to obtain an order declaring the setting up of probe panels by state governors to investigate the excesses of some of its personnel, illegal.

The force, in the said suit, had asked the court to order the thirty-six state governors, listed as defendants, to stop further probes into the conduct of the country’s chief law enforcement agency.
