#EndSARS: NPF Files Suit Seeking Order To Stop Judicial Panels From Probing Allegations Of Police Brutality

By Olivia Isibor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to grant an order stopping state judicial panels of inquiry from further probing allegations of police brutality and human rights abuses by the personnel of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad and other police tactical units.

According to the suit by the NPF’s lawyer, Mr O. M. Atoyebi, the state governments lacked the power to constitute panels to probe the activities of the police force and the manner its personnel performed their statutory duties, urging the court to stop the Attorneys-General of the country’s 36 states and their various panels of inquiry from continuing with their investigations.

The defendants sued by the NPF, include the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), which set up the Independent Investigative Panel sitting in Abuja, the Attorneys-General of the 36 states, and chairmen of the states’ panels.
