Hunger And Poverty Are More Critical Issues Than Restructuring – Amechi

By Franca Joseph (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi is of the view that hunger and poverty are more critical challenges than restructuring.

Amaechi said this on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics where he, despite acknowledging the necessity for restructuring, said that the federal government considered pervasive hunger and poverty as being more critical as they were responsible for the worsening state of insecurity in the country.

The minister further said that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration had created series of poverty alleviation programmes that are meant to keep people away from crime and other social vices.

Amechi added that employing more policemen was not the panacea to crime and other social vices, if it was not backed up with a social investment programme that creates sources of livelihood for the people, intoning that “When you do not create a legitimate economy, the people will create for themselves an illegitimate economy and be able to feed themselves.”
