Wike Refutes Allegations That He Ordered Military Onslaught Against Igbos in Oyigbo

By Lucky Uwakina (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has refuted allegations by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) that he ordered a military onslaught against  Igbos in the Oyigbo area of Rivers State.

The governor disclosed this during a statewide broadcast on Monday, where he said that the imposition of a curfew in Oyigbo was for peaceful purposes, following the mayhem that occurred in the area when members of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) destroyed properties and killed people.

According to Wike, the claim that Igbos were being killed by the Military was a strategy by IPOB to distract the public’s attention from its clandestine activities in the area, adding that this was not the first time the pro-Biafra group was using the area as a launching pad for its nefarious activities, vowing not to allow criminals destroy his state.

IPOB had claimed that the curfew imposed by Governor Wike in the Oyigbo area of the state, following violence that reportedly resulted in the killing of some security operatives, alongside civilians, was part of a design to wipe out Igbos.
