By Lucky Uwakina (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, on Sunday, called on the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to resign because he had lost the people’s confidence.
According to a statement by Taofik Gani, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Lagosians had lost faith in Sanwo-Olu, due to his use of soldiers to quell the peaceful #EndSARS protesters at Lekki toll gate on October 20.
The statement partly read: “The PDP is of the view that it is more expedient for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to step aside now that the Nigerian Army has revealed him as the person who invited the soldiers to go quell the Lekki protests which have led to unfortunate fatalities and grievous injuries.
“Obviously, Lagosians can no longer trust a governor who denies his conspiracy actions in government. Sanwoolu has no moral standing worth being proud of and he should admit this and honourably leave the stage as governor of the state.”
There has been accusations and counter accusation between Governor Sanwo-Olu and the Nigerian Army as to who was responsible for the killing peaceful protesters at the Lekki toll gate, with the governor accussing the soldiers of the shooting incident, while the soldiers say they had stormed the tollgate on the invitation of the governor.
