#Environment: Katsina Invests Over N8bn To Check Ecological Challenges


(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – In its bid to check ecological challenges ravaging the state, the Katsina State Government disclosed that it has invested over N8 billion to help check the menace.

According to the Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Hamza Faskari, who disclosed this, the ecological challenges being faced by the state include flood, erosion, waste management, drought and climate change, which have had negative impact on access roads, agricultural farmlands, hydraulic structures and the general wellbeing of the people.

According to him, the state government has received various interventions which included the reactivation of the state Ecological Fund Law No5, of 2005 as amended, which provides for statutory deductions of not less than two per cent of monthly allocations due to the state and the 34 local governments from the Federation Allocations to address ecological challenges in all nooks and crannies of the state.

POTENTIAL IMPACT: The fund, if properly utilized, will help check the serious ecological challenges bedeviling the state and also reverse the negative impact it has had on the economic life and general wellbeing of the residents of the state.
