#EndSARS#: Armed Robbers Will Have A Feild Day If SARS Is Banned – Mike Okiro

By Franca Joseph (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Mike Okiro, a onetime Inspector-General of Police, IGP, has warned against placing a blanket ban on the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), on the grounds that armed robbers would benefit more from such a move.

The former IGP called for a revamping of the operational mechanisms of the squad to make it more effective, rather than a blanket ban, which would have negative multiplier effects on the crime fighting abilities of the police.

Okiro, who said this on Thursday during a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), added that while it was true that SARS had derailed from performing its core duties, it could still be re-engineered to begin to perform its core crime fighting functions, calling for stiffer sanctions to be meted out to erring personnel of the squad who contravene their codes of conduct.
