By Lillian Ogbonna (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Following suggestions in some quarters that Ibrahim Magu, suspended Tsar of the country’s apex anti-graft body, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),pleaded guilty and begged the probe panel for mercy, Wahab Shittu, his counsel, on Tuesday thundered that his client never owned up to the allegations of corruption leveled against him, nor begged the probe panel for mercy, as was being rumoured.
This was contained in a statement by Shittu, who slammed the report for trying to mislead the public on the true facts of the matter, adding that Nigerians were waiting on the Ayo-Salami-headed panel to do justice on the matter, advising public commentators to speak based on facts and within legal boundaries.
“At no time did Magu admit to guilt to the allegations, the subject matter of the inquiry. Indeed the only thing going for Magu is the conviction of his innocence,”
Magu is currently being probed by a presidential panel over allegations of gross abuse of office, mismanagement and relooting of recovered loot under his stewardship as interim chairman of the EFCC.
