#Asia: Research Reveals China Is Running Several Detention Centres In Xinjiang

By Amaechi Idumuebor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Findings presented by a group of Australian researches suggests that China is running several detention centres in northwest Xinjiang.

The research think-tank, known as the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), disclosed that it had unearthed over 380 suspected detention facilities in the region, where China is believed to have held more than one million Uighurs and other mostly Muslim Turkic-speaking residents.

According to the research, the number of facilities is put at approximately 40 percent greater than previous estimates, and was increasingly steadily, despite China’s claims that many Uighurs have been set free.
