By Lucky Uwakina (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Governor Godwin Obaseki for his victory at the Edo State Gubernatorial election, saying he is an advocate of democracy.
The President said this via a statement made available to the media by Garba Shehu, spokesman for the Presidency, in which he also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the fluidity of the electoral process in Edo State, alongside candidates of other political parties that contested in the poll, security agencies and the people of the state for their significant contributions to the success of the process.
He urged Obaseki to be magnanimous in victory.
Excerpts of the statement read: “My commitment to free and fair elections is firm, because without free and fair elections, the foundation of our political and moral authority will be weak.”
“I have consistently advocated for free and fair elections in the country because it is the bedrock of true democratic order.”
