‘We Just Can’t Avoid Borrowing To Fund Infrastructure’ – Pres. Buhari

By Franca Joseph (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday admitted that government could not afford not to borrow to fund infrastructural development in the country, adding that all loans taken by his administration were in the country’s interest.

Buhari made the submission while speaking at a virtual conference with members of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC), which was held at the State House, Abuja.

According to the President, one of the cardinal objectives of his administration was to fix the country most critical infrastructure, such as roads, rails and power, which would act as incentives for potential investors, hence the need to take loans.

The president also stated that that the parlous state of the country’s infrastructure had deprived it of its potential status as the West African hub for Air cargo transportation and trans-shipment of goods.
