Edo Guber Poll: Candidates Sign Peace Pact Ahead Of Election

By Olivia Isibor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Ahead of the September 19, 2020, Edo State Governorship poll, candidates of contending political parties today signed a Peace pact meant to ensure that the election was held without rancour.

The agreement, which was put together by the National Peace Committee, took place in Benin City, the state capital, and was attended by the Chairman, National Peace Committee and former Head of State, Abdulsalam Abubakar, member of the committee and Catholic Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah, among others such as members of the political, traditional, and religious circles who were there to witness the signing.

While speaking to Channels Television, a member of YIAGA Africa’s board, Ezenwa Nwagu, said the accord is necessary following the previous narrative that suggests the drums of war in the election. YIAGA organized the deal in concert with the National Peace Committee as a peace building and conflict prevention strategy ahead the eagerly anticipated election.
