By Franca Joseph (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – A pressure group, the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, SOKAPU, has expressed concern over the continued invitation of the former Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Dr Obadiah Mailafia, by the Department of State Service, DSS, for questioning over comments he made on a radio station on the Southern Kaduna crisis.
This follows Mailafia’s invitation by the service on Monday, September 14, 2020, for further questioning.
In the statement by SOKAPU’s National President, Jonathan Asake, on Sunday, the union expressed its fears that the continued invitation of Mr. Mailafia by the DSS was a ploy to intimidate and silence him, adding that the DSS’ continued harassment of their son, who was a national patriot, was part of a sinister plot conceived within the country’s security services
SOKAPU, while stating that Mailafia’s disclosure was not novel, as other top Nigerians had in the past made similar statements bordering on issues of security without being harassed, wonderd why the DSS had refrained from inviting such individuals for questioning, citing pronouncements by members of MACBAN, who had in some instances openly claimed responsibility for attacks by herdsmen, by calling such attacks revenge or reprisals.
According to the statement, Mailafia had strong grounds to alert the country of threats to the security of its citizens, adding that the gory specter of violence in which over 101 communities in Southern Kaduna have been ravaged by rampaging Fulani militia, and which had inadvertently created huge refugee problems in the area, could not be fathomed by any right-thinking individual.
SOKAPU expressed complete concurrence with Dr. Obadiah’s position, as he prepared to honour the DSS’ invitation, calling on men and women of good conscience in Nigeria and the international community to call for a halt to the further persecution of Dr. Mailafia for daring to state the obvious.
