Ondo Election: INEC Knows Why Fire Incident Occurred – PDP

By Lillian Ogbonna (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Ondo State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has expressed skeptic over the fire outbreak that occurred at the state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

According to the PDP, the INEC has questions to answer following the unfortunate incident.

According to the PDP, via a statement by the state Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Peretei, it was strange for INEC to suggest it did not have an internal mechanism to curtail fire outbreaks in its office, asking whether the metal container containing the over 5000 card reader machines was connected to electricity, and if so, why the electricity supply was not put off after the official close of work at 05.00pm, adding whether the security officers were on duty at the time the fire started, and how possible it was for the fire to completely incinerate a container housing over 5000 card reader machines within few minutes.

The party expressed its reluctance to participate in the forthcoming Governorship Election in the state when the system was compromised, demanding for a full report on the remote and immediate causes of the blaze to avoid a worst-case scenario during the poll proper.
