Fuel Price Hike, Others: History Will Vindicate Buhari – Presidency

By Olivia Isibor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) –  The presidency says history will vindicate President Muhammadu Buhari’s several decisions.

This was contained in a statement on Sunday by Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, who stated that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government had worked assiduously towards assuaging the public’s expectations.

According to Shehu, the long-term reforms recently implemented by the president was meant to forestall the misappropriation of taxpayers money, eradicate corruption associated with subsidies on petroleum products, electricity, fertilizer etc, and allow the forces of demand and supply to determine their prices.

Speaking further, Shehu said that previous administrations had foreseen the need for the elimination of subsidies in the most crucial sectors of the economy, but lacked the will to go the whole hog, adding that the presidents decisions were in the interest of the people.

Shehu added that the multiple challenges currently confronting the country such as low earnings, near-collapse of the oil market, floods, threats of terrorism and banditry, alongside the COVID-19 pandemic, required that bold decisions be taken, intoning that history would vindicate President Buhari for redeeming his pre-election promises to Nigerians to revamp the economy, accelerate national development through the elimination of corruption associated with subsidies.
