We Are Not Deporting Pro-Biafra Agitators To Nigeria For Persecution – NIDCOM

By Lillian Ogbonna (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has denied that the commission was being used by the Federal Government to deport Biafra agitators.

This came in the wake of allegations by the leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra,MASSOB, Uchenna Madu, via a statement titled “Security agents killing our members secretly” that NIDCOM was being used to repatriate leaders of pro-Biafra groups in the diaspora to Nigeria to face trial.

According to NIDCOM, via a statement by Dabiri-Erewa, and released by the its spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the news was concocted by the group for mischievous ends, adding that the commission lacked the powers to engage in the deportation of Nigerians living in other parts of the world, saying only the Foreign Ministry could act in such capacity and within extant international laws and protocols.

The statement added that NIDCOM was established to serve all Nigerians, devoid of ethnic, religious and other primordial considerations, and functioned within the ambit of the extant laws under which it was set up.
