“I’m Not Deterred By NBA’s Decision To Drop Me As Speaker” – El-Rufai

By Franca Joseph (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State says he is not deterred by the decision of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to drop him from the list of speakers at its August 24-26, 2020 virtual Conference,  following a petition against the governor by some lawyers – consequent to prevailing security issues in Kaduna.

The governor’s position on his suspension was made public via a statement by his Special Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, who stressed, however, that El-Rufai would continue to express his thoughts on critical issues of national significance.

Going further, Adekeye said that the governor was actually invited by his friends in the bar to participate in a panel discussion on national identity, which he accepted as part of his commitment to having a national conversation and the evolution of a national consensus, and sees the latest twist as no cause for the buzz it was generating in certain quarters.

The statement further stressed that the NBA’s one-sided narrative, which culminated in El-Rufai’s removal from the list of speakers at the conference,” embraced injustice, unfairness and an indifference to the rule of law”, adding that the governor was committed to the task of building peace and preventing the further escalation of violence in Kaduna State.
