Duoye Diri’s Election As Bayelsa Governor Affirmed By Tribunal

By Olivia Isibor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) –The election of Senator Duoye Diri as Bayelsa State Governor has been affirmed by the Bayelsa Governorship Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja.

In its ruling on Saturday, the three-man panel took the decision, one month sequel to the Supreme Court’s dismissal of an appeal filed by Timi Alaibe, a former governorship aspirant under the banner of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), questioning the candidacy of Senator Diri in the November 2019 election.

The tribunal in a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Owodunni held that the petition filed by Owei Woniwei of the Alliance for Democracy is incompetent and lacks merit, adding that the petitioner failed to prove the allegations of the forged declaration of age and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharged certificate leveled against the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence.
