#Insecurity: Please Allow ‘Responsible Citizens’ To Carry Arms, Ortom Begs FG

By Olivia Isibor (AHENDAWATCHDOG) – Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has implored the Federal Government to grant licences to responsible citizens to bare arms, consequent to the worsening security situation in the country.

According to the governor, who was speaking yesterday during the virtual meeting convened by Centre for Values in Leadership, CVL, in collaboration with Nigeria Governors’ Forum, his proposal should be backed by a strict legal framework to prevent illegal possession of arms

The governor’s proposal, which was contained in a paper titled ‘Insecurity and Governance Challenges in the New Normal’, advised that there was need for governments at all levels to recognize the security threats faced by all Nigerians, and work towards checking the phantom, calling for proper funding of security agencies and continuous training of their personnel to enable them to be abreast of global dynamics in the fight against insecurity.
