-. A blame war has erupted between the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), following the takeover of the Edo State House of Assembly complex by security operatives on Thursday. The PDP is blaming the APC for bringing police personnel from Abuja to cordon off the Assembly complex, while the APC is denying the allegation.

-.Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, has described the nationwide RevolutionNow protests of Wednesday, August 5, 2020, as child’s play. Law enforcement cracked down on RevolutionNow Protesters in the Nigerian capital city of Abuja, the commercial hub of Lagos and elsewhere across the country, arresting dozens of protesters nationwide.

-.A 40-foot container laden with drugs suspected to be Tramadol and codeine was intercepted on Thursday by the police in Apapa Area Command of Lagos State. The container was intercepted on water and taken to a bonded terminal in Apapa.

-.No fewer than 20 people have been reportedly killed and several others injured in fresh attacks on three communities in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The attack, which occurred on Thursday, was said to have been carried out by suspected militia.

-.Manchester United’s Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez has signed a three-year contract with Inter Milan, the Italian club announced on Thursday. The 31-year-old, who had been on loan at Inter this season, signed a contract until June 30, 2023.

-.Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo said on Thursday that the state would resist any attempt by anybody to forcefully take over the state House of Assembly, adding that he would do everything within his constitutional powers to protect the sovereignty of the House and the state. The governor’s statement was not unconnected with media reports credited to the Speaker of the house, Francis Okiye alleging that Gov. Hope Uzodinma of Imo and the impeached Deputy Speaker of the house,Yekini Idiaye, had planned to import a fake mace to violently take over control of the assembly.

-.A Chinese court sentenced a Canadian national to death on Thursday in a ruling that could further inflame tensions between China and Canada. The Guangzhou Intermediate Court said in a statement it had handed Xu Weihong a death sentence for manufacturing drugs, and said all his personal property would be confiscated.

-.The government of Lebanon has given an “investigative committee” four days to determine responsibility for the devastating explosion in Beirut port on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Charbel Wehbe told French radio Thursday.“This morning, a decision was taken to create an investigative committee which in four days maximum must provide a detailed report on responsibility — how, who, what, where?

-.One of the #RevolutionNow protesters, Tope Akinyode, has accused the Nigerian government of failing to rise to the challenges of the people. Akinyode, who is the National President of Revolutionary Lawyers’ Forum, called on the present administration to resign.

-.Guinea’s ruling party on Thursday urged President Alpha Conde to seek a third term in elections due this year, a scenario that has sparked clashes in the West African state. Under Guinea’s constitution, presidents may only serve two terms. Conde, 82, was elected president in 2010 and again in 2015. But this year he pushed through a revamped constitution that opponents say was crafted to reset the term counter, enabling him to run again.
