Probing Foreign Loans Could Discourage Lenders – Amaechi

By Franca Joseph (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaech, has pointed out that the probing of loans taken by the Federal Government could discourage lenders from releasing much needed funds for the country’s infrastructural development.

Amaechi, who made the observation at an investigative hearing put together by the House of Representatives Committee on Treaties, Protocols and Agreements in Abuja, disclosed that he had intimated the Speaker of the House, Rep. Femi Gbajabimila of the potential negative effect such probes could have on the ability of the Federal Government to access the loan facility for the completion of the Lagos-Ibadan and Kano rail projects.

The Minister adviced that the hearing be postponed to December when the loan request would have been granted.
