Nigeria Receives $890m Grant To Fight HIV, Malaria, Tuberculosis

By Amechi Idumuebor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Nigeria’s fight against HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and tuberculosis have received a boost following the federal government’s announcement that it had received a three-year grant amounting to $890m from the Global Fund, starting from 2021.

Osagie Ehanire, Nigeria’s Minister of Health, while disclosing this during a media chat on Tuesday, said that the Fund had also approved $28.1m to support the country’s COVID-19 efforts, adding that the grants were votes of confidence by the international community on the federal government’s healthcare policies.

Nigeria has contributed a total of $28.62m since the inception of the Global Fund, which is an international health financing mechanism established by the United Nations in 2002.
