WTO: FG Drums Up Support For Okonjo-Iweala, Sets Up Campaign Team


BY Franca Joseph (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – In furtherance of its support for Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s candidacy for the position of the Director-General of World Trade Organisation (WTO), the Federal Government has set up a Campaign Strategy Team.

Mr Adeniyi Adebayo, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, who inaugurated the campaign team on Thursday in Abuja, enthused that it was a major driver of Nigeria’s quest to ensure that Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala bested other contenders to become the next WTO Director-General for 2021.

The Campaign Strategy team comprises officials of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; representatives of the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President and Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, officials from the Ministry of Finance, Nigerian Ambassador to ECOWAS and African Union as well as Geneva–based officials.
