Nigerian Security Operatives Should Be Tested For Substance Abuse – Aregbesola

By Olivia Isibor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola has harped on the need for security agencies in Nigeria to make it compulsory for their operatives to undergo drug tests to determine their suitability to carry fire arms.

According to Aregbesola, who made the appeal at the flag-off of substance abuse test, tagged, “The test begins with me”, by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Thursday in Abuja, the call became necessary due to the need to ensure that any security operative bearing fire arms was not under the influence of hard drugs or other psychotropic substances, thereby constituting threats to themselves and the public.

Speaking further, the minister advocated for zero tolerance for substance abuse among the operatives of the country’s security agencies as nothing could be more dangerous than an armed drug addict, calling on all all security agencies in Nigeria, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and the general public, to emulate the immigration service by conducting drug integrity tests for their employees.
