(1).Following Real Madrid’s victory over Villarreal, which confirmed them as winners of the 2019/2020 La Liga title, Barcelona have formally congratulated them for securing their 34th league diadem. French forward Karim Benzema netted a brace to hand Zinedine Zidane’s men a 2-1 win over the Yellow Submarines.
(2).Abdulaziz Yari Former Zamfara State governor, has threatened to sue former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode for showering undeserved expletives on him. The former Aviation Minister had in a statement on Wednesday on its official Twitter page accused the former governor of flouting COVID-19 guidelines and resisting attempts by airport officials to disinfect his luggage, claiming that being a VIP, he should be given exceptional treatment.
(3).President Muhammadu Buhari has warned ministers and heads of the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to be respectful in their relationship with the National Assembly.The president’s warning came in the wake of a meeting between the President and the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Thursday at the Aso Villa in Abuja.
(4).Ibrahim Magu, the suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has written to the Presidential Committee investigating him and the agency for alleged financial impropriety and gross official misconduct to correct some misconceptions being peddled in the media which could be inimical to the panel’s proceedings. Magu’s protestations were contained in a letter by one of his lawyers, Wahab Shittu, addressed to the Chairman of the panel, Retired Justice Ayo Salami, referring to the claims that the suspended EFCC boss paid N4 billion to the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, and another N28 million to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana.
(5).Yahaya Bello, the Kogi State Governor, has been selected to chair the Ondo State governorship primary election committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This comes after the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker/Extra-ordinary National Convention Planning Committee on Thursday constituted Primary Election and Appeal Committees ahead of the party’s governorship primary election slated to hold on July 20, 2020.
(6).Following the failed attempt by some security operatives from arresting her, the former Managing Director of the Interim Committee of the Niger-Delta Development Commission, Mrs. Joy Nunieh has heaped praises on the Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike, for coming to her rescue. Governor Wike had moved to avert the arrest of Nunieh at her residence at Herbert Macaulay Street, Old GRA, Port Harcourt, moving her to Government House, Port Harcourt.
(7).The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has set up a Presidential Joint Board and Audit Panel to probe the allegation of misappropriation of N3.4 billion levelled against Adebayo Somefun, the suspended Managing Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) and three others.The committee is chaired by Ibrahim Khaleel, who doubles as Chairman of the Audit Committee of the NSITF board and president of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).
(8).Prof. Charles Egbu has been congratulated on his appointment as the Vice Chancellor of Leeds Trinity University, East London, United Kingdom, by the Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa. Dabiri-Erewa’s congratulatory message was signed by Gabriel Odu of the commission’s Media, Public Relations and Protocol Unit and made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja.
(9).The Majority Leader, Alhaji Suleiman Nasko and Deputy Majority Leader, Mr Andrew Jagaba of the Niger State House of Assembly have been impeached. Their impeachment was consequent to the adoption of a motion by Alhaji Ndagi Baba, representing Lavun constituency and seconded by Alhaji Saidu Tama, representing Edati constituency during Thursday’s plenary.
(10).Pan Niger-Delta Forum (PANDEF), the apex Socio-cultural Organisation of the Niger Delta Region, has endorsed the Demands, for justice and equity, by some Oil and Gas-producing Communities and Ethnic Groups in Delta State. This position was taken after a virtual meeting of the Forum’s National Executive, in consultation with strategic and critical stakeholders, on Tuesday, 14th July, 2020.
