NDDC: South-South Governors In Support Of Forensic Audit

By Franca Joseph (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The ongoing forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari, has received the backing of the South-South Governors Forum.

In a statement by its Chairman, Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the group expressed its support for the ongoing audit and its expectation that the NDDC would be the better for it.

According to the governors, the Senate’s ongoing investigation of the commission’s accounts was in order as it was within the ambits of its oversight functions through the interim committee established for that purpose, adding that the audit would help reengineer the NDDC for more efficient and effective service delivery.

The governors reiterated their readiness to support any initiative that would make the NDDC more functional and responsive to the development needs of the Niger Delta region and enhancement of the general well-being of its people, warning some of the stakeholders in the ongoing conflict rocking the NDDC to comport themselves in ways that would not endanger the region’s stability.
