(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Niger State Government has commenced rehabilitation work on the Minna City Gate-Chanchaga Road, irrespective of the paucity of funds, consequent to the COVID-19 pandemic
The restoration work, which is projected to cost 403 Million Naira, is due for completion within 16 weeks, as captured in the contract agreement.
At the flag off of the road rehabilitation projects, the Chief of Staff to Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, who is also the Chairman, Infrastructure Project Monitoring Committee, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe, who represented the governor, assured that the project will be strictly supervised to ensure value for money.
Irrespective of the the Federal Government’s policy of not refunding State governments for rehabilitating Federal Roads, the Governor has directed the Infrastructure Monitoring Committee to engage the relevant Federal Government Authorities towards possible refund to the State Government, due to the fact that the state was fixing the road due to its dilapidated condition, despite being a Federal Road.
The road, which has been contracted to the H&M Company, due to its pedigree, would ease the movement of goods and services by the road users plying the route.
Concerning the issue of regulating the movement of articulated vehicles across the State, due to the fact that most of the roads are Federal Government roads, the State Government is consulting with relevant Federal Government Agencies to come up with measures to tackle this challenge.
