NDDC Crisis: Akpabio Keeps Mum On Nunieh’s Allegations, Says “Corruption Is Fighting Back”

By Olivia Isibor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Following the allegations of of sexual harassment leveled against him by Mrs. Joy Nunieh, a former Managing Director of the Interim Management Committee, IMC, of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, has reacted by saying the allegations was simply corruption’s way of fighting back.

Akpabio made his feelings on the matter known during a media chat in Abuja, yesterday, where on being asked to respond to Dr. Nunieh’s sexual harassment allegation, said that rather than discuss individuals, he was more concerned with how he can help the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians, especially the people of the Niger Delta, adding that all the noise emanating from recent happenings in the polity was due to the incoming wind of change and the attempts by the agents of corruption in the polity to stop it.

Speaking further, Akpabio said that since becoming a minister, he had only given out two contracts, the first being for the forensic audit of NDDC, while the other was for COVID-19 intervention to states in the Niger Delta region, adding that corruption was already a very serious issue in the Ministry prior to his arrival.

Mrs. Nunieh had during the week claimed to have slapped Senator Akpabio for allegedly harassing her sexually, an accusation Akpabio reacted to by calling Nunieh a woman with an attitude problem.
