#COVID-19: There Is A Possibility Of Airborne Transmission – NCDC

By Franca Joseph (AGENDWATCHDOG) – COVID-19 could be transmitted by air, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), via a statement by its Director-General, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, during  a press  briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19.

According to the DG, emerging evidence from observation of the spread pattern of COVID-19 is pointing to the fact that apart from droplets from respiratory tracts, the disease could also be transmitted by air.

Ihekweazu further stated that the World Health Organisation (WHO), which holds the same position on the mode of COVID-19 transmission, has also updated its guidelines, advising Nigerians to continue adhering to outlined preventive measures and not to act on the assumption that the disease was not airborne.

Nigeria currently has 33, 153 cases of COVID-19, following the confirmation of 595 new cases by the NCDC.
