Report That Gov. Okowa Mandated Civil Servants To Undergo COVID-19 Tests Is Fake News – Ifejika

By Olivia Isibor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Consequent to reports in the social media that Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, had mandated all his aides and civil servants in the state to undergo COVID -19 tests, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, has slammed such reports as false and baseless.

According to Ifeajika, who reacted via a statement on Sunday in Asaba, the state capital, the mongers of the baseless rumour had no evidence to prove their claims as the governor had not at any time, either by internal memo or press release, given such an order.

Ifejika noted that Governor Okowa’s position since Delta State joined the league of states with cases of COVID-19, was that residents of the state should adhere to COVID-19 guidelines as set out by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) as the best defense against the virus.

Concerning trending social media reports that the entire media team to the governor tested positive for COVID-19, culminating in the shutdown of the Press Unit, Ifejika denied that such false reports emanated from his office, calling the authors of such fake news irresponsible practitioners of Yellow Journalism

Ifeajika referred newsmen to source information concerning the activities of the state government, including developments in the ongoing war against COVID-19, directly from the state’s official information channels, such as his office, and not from grapevine channels, such as the social media.
