About Mohammed Umar, The New EFCC Acting Chairman


By Olivia Isibor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Consequent to the suspension of Ibrahim Magu as acting Chairman of the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, Mohammed Umar, EFCC’s Director of Operations, was ordered to act in Magu’s stead pending the conclusion of Magu’s ongoing probe by the Presidential Investigation Panel under the Tribunals of Inquiry Act and other relevant laws.

Following the suspension of Magu, Mohammed Umar, who was the EFCC’s Director of Operations , prior to his elevation to act in Magu’s stead, became the most senior official at the commission. He is a Deputy Commissioner of Police and a devout Muslim who hails from Kano State.

Ibrahim Magu’s ongoing probe commenced following a petition containing allegations of financial impropriety and gross abuse of office by the Attorney General of the Federation & Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
