Oyedepo’s COVID-19 Healing Claims Reckless, Dangerous, Unverified – Leo Igwe

By Lillian Ogbonna (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – COVID-19 healing claims by Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church, a.k.a Winners Chapel, have been slammed by Leo Igwe, founder of the Humanist Association of Nigeria (HAN), as hollow, misleading and capable of engendering risky behavior among Nigerians, amid the increasing spread of the virus.

Oyedepo had claimed that 114 members of his church had been healed of COVID-19 through prayers, and that these individuals had publicly testified about their healing.

Speaking on Oyedepo’s claims, Igwe says that such a claim is capable of making people throw caution to the winds with the belief that nothing would happen to them since they had God by their sides, opening themselves up to be infected by the virus in the process.

According to Igwe, COVID-19 does not have a vaccine yet, advising that the only prevention against the disease was adherence to the protocols and guidelines prescribed by the World Health Organisation, WHO, the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), adding that faith healers should refrain from misleading the public with their invented lies.
