Magu: PDP Insists On Trial Of Embattled EFCC Chairman

By Franca Joseph (GENDAWATCHDOG) – Consequent to an appraisal of the nuances of the ongoing probe of the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, by  a Presidential Panel, former ruling, and incumbent opposition, party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) want him prosecuted in court.

According to the PDP, in a statement by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, Magu’s ‘indictment’ was an indication that the EFCC’s much-vaunted anti-graft war was a shameful sham that had been exploited by the ruling party to intimidate and harass opposition voices and groups in the country.

The PDP accused the All Progressive Congress (APC) Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government of exploiting the EFCC championed anti-corruption war to enrich its members, considering the amount of recovered funds and assets fraudulently diverted or sold, as revealed by the memo by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, in concert with the report of the Department of State Services (DSS) on the activities of the embattled EFCC boss.

Calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to allow justice to have its way by not seeking to provide any sort of protection for the EFCC Boss, the PDP said that Nigerians expect the president to direct relevant agencies to commence actions that would lead to Magu’s prosecution in the court of law.
