By Franca Joseph (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Consequent to the ongoing probe of the acting Chairman of the country’s apex anti-corruption body, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, by a special Presidential panel, Mr Mohammed Umar, the Director of Operations, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been drafted to act in his stead, pending the conclusion of the panel’s task.
This was disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, by a reliable source in the agency, who pleaded anonymity.
While spokesman of the EFCC, Mr. Dele Oyewale, maintained a stoic silence on the chairman’s alleged suspension, the above mentioned source, however, said that the commission had not yet received any formal communication concerning Mr. Magu’s reported suspension, adding that the chairman’s ordeal was part of a grand conspiracy by shady characters who wanted Mgu out prelude to 2023.
The source also mentioned poor staff welfare and delay in promotion as reasons for Magu’s probe.
Ibrahim Magu, who is being quizzed by a presidential panel set up to investigate allegations of official misconduct against him by some petitioners, appeared before the Ayo Salami-led panel on Monday, following which he was taken into police custody.
