By Olivia Isibor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Delta Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has warned of the possibility of Delta State becoming another epicenter of the dreaded COVD-19 pandemic, following the escalating cases of infections in the state.
According to the governor, who spoke via a signed statement on Sartuday, May 27, 2020, the rate of community transmission of COVID-19 in Delta State was alarming and frightening, saying that many people still believed that the virus was a ruse.
Okowa warned that if residents of the state continued to flout COVID-19 protocols and guidelines released by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), such as social distancing, regular washing of hands, wearing of face masks, use of alcohol based hand sanitizers and improved hygienic standards, there was a risk of the state becoming another epicenter of the disease like Lagos State.
According to the latest COVID-19 figures By the NCDC, Delta State had a total figure of 781, with the most affected local governments being Oshimili South (181), Warri South (128), Uvwie (112), Oshimili North (79), Ughelli North (74), Ethiope West (41), and Sapele (66).
