Demolition Of Mission Building: Ghana Is Committed To Righting Wrongs – Gbajabiamila


By Lilian Ogbonna (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The authorities of Ghana are working assiduously towards establishing the remote and immediate causes of the demolition of a structure in the premises of the Nigerian Mission in Accra, its capital city.

Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, disclosed this via a statement, on Friday, June 26, 2020, in which he stated that Ghana had also pledged to cede the property, alongside all associated documents, to the Nigerian High Commission.

According to the speaker, the Speaker of the Ghanaian Parliament, Aaron Oquaye, gave his word that the legislature would collaborate with the executive arm of government to work out a diplomatic resolution of the matter, work with their Executive to ensure the matter is resolved diplomatically.

Following Nigeria’s complaint to the authorities of Ghana over the demolition of a structure under construction in the premises of its high commission by a Ghana based business man, who claimed ownership of the land on which the Nigerian  High Commission is built, Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo, had called President Muhammadu Buhari to extend his sincere apologies over the incident , promising to make sure justice was served.
